Wroxham Football Club was formed in 1892 by Mr G E Preston and in the early days the side played on Wroxham Park, sporting the rather interesting colours pink and black! The club’s location meant they quickly became known as ‘The Yachtsmen’. Initially the side played friendlies prior to joining the East Norfolk League and the Norwich City Junior League. In 1935 they joined the East Anglian League and went on to enjoy a number of successful years. However in the early 1950s the club hit lean times and stepped down to the Norwich & District League. Fortunes really hit rock bottom as the club suffered a not so memorable 24-0 defeat! At the start of the 1963/64 season they applied to become founder members of the Anglian Combination and in 1974/75 the club won its first major trophy, the Norfolk Junior Cup. In successive seasons the team won their first league title, the Division Two Championship followed by the Division One title. The early 1980s saw the club achieve new levels of success as they dominated the Anglian Combination for several seasons. The Premier Division title was won for the first time in 1981/82 and it was successfully defended for the next three seasons. The 1988/89 season saw the club accept a new challenge as they were accepted into the Eastern Counties (Jewson) League’s newly formed First Division, becoming champions and promoted to the Premier Division where they remained until season 2011/12, winning many trophies and titles along the way. Following another Premiership title they applied and accepted promotion into the Ryman League North Division, step 4 in the non-league ladder in season 2012/13.
